Tabriz Persian Rug

A tabriz rug carpet is a type in the general category of persian carpets from the city of tabriz the capital city of east azarbaijan province in north west of iran totally populated by azerbaijanis.

For centuries tabriz has been a place of trade with its central location to azerbaijan armenia and turkey. The ruler at that time shah abbas the great encouraged artisans in the art. Tabriz is one of the most well known and oldest carpet producing centers in the world.

Among the products traded are hand knotted persian carpets. Creativity flourished in this northwestern region during the period between 1587 and1629. The blue mosque and the statue of the famous poet khaqani are well known in tabriz. With strict standards of craftsmanship and quality of materials used tabriz rug weavers produced tight densely knotted structures and elaborate floral displays.

Since the middle of the 19th century tabriz has lead a resurgence in persian carpet weaving both for domestic use and for export. Due to there long history of carpet weaving the weavers of tabriz are amongst the most skilled in persia. These valuable oriental rugs are made from the best cork wool and are usually refined with silk. Tabriz carpets are easily distinguished by an additional designation.

It is one of the oldest rug weaving centers and makes a huge diversity of types of carpets.
